History

My fighting journey started in 1992.  In high school, I was friends with a group of foam weapon fighters who participated in Dagorhir as the "Shindar."  Every Monday we would have lunch in the cafeteria together and I would hear their stories from over the weekend about this battle or that campout. One day, I just finally asked them "What is this Dagorhir thing you guys keep talking about?"

So, my friends invited me to their weekly practices at the Rockville, Maryland Civic Center where I met the other Shindar.  Soon enough, I was spending weekends making t-tunics, the standard Shindar "penguin" (the long vest in the picture above), and foam weapons in my friends' basements.  I already had a background in Tae Kwon Do, which helped.

Then, the Shindar started talking about these "other sports", Markland and the SCA, which they were participating in as part of Anglesey, which was formed from another Dagorhir group called Gwynedd.  Eventually, they helped me get equipped and authorized for "heavy" fighting which I did from 1994 through 2002 with Anglesey. I took a break from medievalism and then came back to heavy fighting with Anglesey in 2008 and have been doing it ever since, except for during my pregnancy in 2017-2018. 😉

It's only been since about 2015 or so that I became more involved in the SCA through my local Barony and Kingdom.  Now, I would describe myself as "'half way' up the hill" (a Pennsic reference), having one foot in my Household and another foot in my Kingdom.  I'm an Anglantian!

I am authorized in weapon and shield, spear, greatsword, pole arm, and siege.  I am known for melee spear work and field command, but I have been working on and off on my singles fighting more recently.
